We understand that Martin had recently sufferred with stomach pain whilst on a Morini outing in Spain. On his return he cancelled several engagements including the Oschersleben WEC / 4 hrs classic weekend. After persistant pain, he sought medical advice but died shortly afterwards.
We last saw Martin at Donington Park at the 4hrs classic weekend in early May. He was then in good spirits and enjoyed some high quality time with a lot of old friends.

Martin will be fondly remembered by hundreds of Phase One Endurance team members, riders, friends and supporters alike.

Martin started his support for our team by helping in the workshop in the early 1990s, quickly progressing to handling the team's PR, via the Phase One Endurance website and Race 24.
He will be remembered by most for being ever present at all of the World Endurance Events for a ten year period and providing in depth reportage and high quality images, from Suzuka to Le Mans, where no others were available. More recently Martin gave his support to the growing band of classic endurance race followers.
Martin's genuine enthusiasm for motorcycle endurance racing (proper racing as he would say), combined with his photography and IT skills, brought this branch of motorsport to thousands who would otherwise have been unconnected, particularly after each event.

Due to the EELC regulations not being adopted by the DG Sports, the team's 2015 GSX1230 bike had to be used to be compliant. Qualifying was predictably difficult and was topped by the RC30s of the new Evo class.

Peter Linden started both legs, quickly settling into top six positions in both. Leg one went fairly well, with the Linden/Brasher pairing finishing a creditable fifth, behind team Kaiser, who narrowly beat Linden to the flag on the Kaiser Kawasaki.

Leg two was a disaster for many teams including our own. We went out of 7th place with a set of split inlet rubbers, which led to further problems, which forced retirement with just 20 mins to go. Mertens went out with RC30 engine trouble, as did Team Edge on the Harris Suzuki. Roadrunner followed with a blown engine on their Bakker Suzuki and so did Walo/Tosolini on the Italian Honda 1000. But Perhaps the prize for the worst weekend went to Patrick Banfield and Cormac Conroy, who first retired the P&M Kawasaki with engine trouble and then went on to crash their RC30 and send Cormac to hospital with 9 broken ribs, plus a broken wrist and ankle. (He was however back in the paddock by Sunday afternoon, sporting his normal cheeky smile.despite the obvious pain).

In short, an unremarkable meeting, much diminished from its peak 3 or 4 years ago. Lets hope its back to proper endurance with a 4hrs race next year, as part of a championship, with Estoril and Italy joining the fray.

Thanks to all our team, sponsors and friends; sorry we could not deliver this time out.

Get well soon Cormac.

With just three races we had to work hard and use our best judgements on and off the track to score in 5 out of the 6 scoring opportunities. Let me explain.

The organisers (in their wisdom) adopted the mid-race scoring system used in the EWC. This is a system which awards up to 10 points for a team's position at mid-race distance. These points are then added to your race-end position to give you your total. The only one of which we failed to score in was the end position at Osch...

So, with the fantastic pole position under our belts (thats on rider aggregate) and fastest qualifying lap, Graeme Gowland, 1.34.4 secs, the team went into the race in a confident mood.

We were all worried about the weather though... 32 deg.C would be a lot to ask a tuned oil cooled engine to endure.

Both Gowland and Lindén settled into top 3 positions for the first hour and a half, crossing the mid-race 2 hours point in second place and almost scooping maximum points. All was going to plan. The pressure on the team had already eased as Team Force stopped, first with a split oil cooler and then with a heavily smoking engine. Shortly afterwards the "Continental" Yamaha FJ1300 threat also expired, also with engine failure. It was going oh so well, until, you've guessed it ...ours expired too... a big end failure at 2 hrs 40 mins.... game over.

But, thanks to the hard work at rounds one and two, the EELC Classic Superbike championship was ours.

Well done to all concerned, Team, Riders and Sponsors alike - enjoy the moment.
The Team were relieved to have come away with 4th position in the Superbike standings, and the lead in the Superbike EELC series. An early race crash cost the team 17 laps and despite some fantastic racing, particularly by Graeme Gowland, who posted the fastest absolute race lap of 1min 14.51 secs, a full 0.9 secs ahead of eventual winners Team Force, the team could not recover to a top position.
We should not just single out Graeme, as both Peter Linden and Hugh Brasher both raised their games and responded splendidly in the fightback.

The meeting started on Thursday last with a trackday to test some new items, including Conti's new 17" inch front tyres, plus more track familiarisation for Hugh. [as an aside, Conti used Donington Park to launch the new Mark 3 version of the 18" Road Attack CR race tyre, which we have used so successfully in the CR2 form for 5 years. The CR3 is now available to the public and will surely prove to be the next benchmark in competitive classic racing.] Thursday's tests were very valuable as a new geometry set-up was found which was used in the race and proved competitive.
Saturday's sessions were very short and despite the best efforts of the organisers, the timetable was
in chaos by mid day.! However, enough time was found to do some further useful work on suspension, albeit leaving the full tank testing as late as warm up.
Race day was fine and dry. The team had a great start and settled into P3 for lap one.The crash, on lap 3 from P2, which was not rider error, necessitated front brake, fairing and rear brake lever replacement. This took an overlong 20 mins, but equipped the team with a bike capable of fastest lap in the final hour.

The crash completely altered the team's race strategy (which had aimed to scoop the maximum mid- race points bonus) to one of simply abiding by the rules (40 mins minimum for 3rd rider and a max of 120 mins for any rider) and getting to the flag in an efficient manner. You can race as fast as you like but you cant make up 17 laps in 4 hrs.

In short, it was a fraught race in which we were very happy to go home relatively unscathed and still be in the lead in the EELC Superbikes. It now leaves the team only Oschersleben to show the true potential of this fantastic new bike.!!

Thanks to all team members, riders and sponsors for their support.......and in particular Hugh Brasher, Maurice Walcock, Graham Matcham of Conti, plus Lee and Ray Marchant of MES.
Lee Marchant of Marchant Engineering Services (MES) has confirmed sponsorship backing for the Team for the 2018 season. Team Manager Russell Benney said "What a terrific vote of confidence in the Team following its great performance at Paul Ricard two weeks ago. I know that Lee was disillusioned by the cronyism of the organisers of the ECS championship, but his enthusiasm has been firmly reignited by the arrival of the European Endurance Legends Cup (EELC). As we now find ourselves leading the Superbike class after round one, we can expect some great exposure leading up to round two at Donington Park on 13th May. The EELC organisers have already shown themselves to be on a new level in terms of being media savvy, so I know that MES will be getting even more value for money this season. We are very pleased to welcome MES as sponsorship partners once again."
Lee Marchant " I followed the live timing and reports from the Paul Ricard race from the UK and just wished I could have been there. The boys did so well and leading at half distance was a highlight. The other was Peter's big push on laps 94-96 to try to retake third when he scored the team's fastest lap. Absolutely great. I am very happy to continue to sponsor the team in this important inaugural year for the EELC and look forward to some more close racing and great images"
Top marks to all concerned; we come away equal third in the championship and in the lead in the Superbike category!

The race was held in cold dry conditions with track temperatures around 9 deg. C ! In qualifying Team Force had dominated with Greg Fastre and Stephane Mertens setting fastest times in the daylight and the dark qualifying sessions. Our aggregated time (with three riders) had placed us sixth.

Qualifying was eventful - with a pitiful amount of track time devoted to endurance, every minute would count. For us, a troublesome gearbox required us to abandon the race engine and insert a mildly tuned engine originally built for the UK club race scene. However, despite being down on power it proved easy to use and returned the reliability that was just what the doctor ordered. We sincerely hope that the Donington Park organisers give us sufficient practice over the May weekend.
The race commenced at 8.00 PM, in pitch darkness, a first for the Phase One Team, but it went without incident. Team returnee Graeme Gowland completed a fine 65 minute session (now no 45min max stint rule) to hand over, in second position behind Force, to Peter Linden. After another 35 minutes Peter inherited the lead when Stephane Mertens crashed the Team Force bike heavily into a barrier at the end of the Mistral. He was uninjured. The bike was not so lucky. After a further 30 minutes Peter handed the bike to Hugh Brasher, still leading, now by some 20 seconds, from Roadrunner, Haquin and Taurus.

The EELC organisers have adopted the widely despised mid race distance points award system - one that, in this case, awards points to the top ten at the two hour mark. Rewarding fast (works) but possibly unreliable bikes was never part of what endurance was about. The clue is in the name; endurance.! Anyway, we scooped 10 points there, for leading at mid race.!
So back to the race, after Hugh' stint we were 4th, but it was still all oh so close, each pitstop would drop you 3 places! Graeme returned another fine 18 lap stint to hoist the team back to third and set us up for Peter to challenge for the finish rostrum, however, we all knew it would be a very big ask. In order to optimise the rider times (max 120 mins, min for third man 40 mins) we had planned our compulsory 5th stop (another wacky rule by the organisers to penalise the Guzzi and Ducati entries) very late in the proceedings - so late in fact that it was almost impossible for Peter to catch third place by the line. We failed by 1 second and finished 4th. In doing so Peter set the fastest finishers race lap time of 2;22.9 secs. Not bad for an old boy ! The top six finishers were all on the same lap.

Because of the mid-race award, the team are now equal third going into Donington Park.
We are all excited and intrigued about just how well it will go; so far there has been no easy comparison with any known reference. All we know so far is that it has better brakes and is a darn sight lighter.

Perhaps our best experience will be to welcome back our old team rider, Graham Gowland, at Paul Ricard. We all met up again at our Valencia test and it seemed just like he had never been away. It will be great to have his friendly face and good humour around the classic endurance paddock.
I will just give a short summary for now, with more details later.

We have the race dates decided. See below for the list.

The technical specification for the new bikes is also in place - now it's just a matter of building something!

Hugh and Peter will be fronting up the team with a third rider TBA.

Main sponsor Sweatshop has reconfirmed and we are delighted to have the full backing of Conti once again - and this year on the brand new spec tyres!

The first test is at Valencia on the 9th - 11th of March, just 5 weeks away.

A brief summary of what's been going on:

As predicted, the European Classic Series has finally self-destructed, with just Spa left as a stand alone event.

A new unofficial championship has been launched, called the European Endurance Legends Cup (EELC). This will run over 3 races, Paul Ricard, Donington and Oschersleben.

The Classic Bol is alive and well, again in September.

The Italians are running an enticing 4 race series, but they currently haven't any decent classes to race in.

We are building a new P&M for 2018, with more powerful engine, less weight and improved Beringer brakes.

Our race plan is:

Paul Ricard 4 hours, 24th/25th March,

Donington 4 hours, 13th May,

Oschersleben 4 hours, 8th/9th June,

Spa 2 x 2 hours, 30th June

Classic Bol 2 x 2 hours 14th/15th September

In addition, the team will do some ICGP racing on the new BSR Yamaha TZ350s, running Peter Lindén at least at Hockenheim on 7th/8th September, and at Interlagos in early December.

As a result on embarking on our new projects, we will sell another of our 2017 Peckett & McNab Suzukis. This bike is the machine that won at Imola last year. It is on Ebay and Racebike bits.

Third position in the 2017 European Classic Series was just a reward for a mixed season of results.
Congratulations to all invloved, team, riders and sponsors alike.
The highlights were certainly high! It's hard enough to win a race, let alone get a 1-2 and at Imola to boot!
The corresponding lows were equally low! In summary though - Great job everyone, well done!!
At Aragon, after leading 1-2 from the start, both bikes suffered engine component failures at mid-distance, one cracked crankcase and one broken rocker arm; both bikes were retired.

Going forward, we are now determined to move onto more reliable machinery (all engine problems have been component failures - each 35 years old) and a return to a higher percentage of race finishes and great results lie ahead.
Whether the EVO 750 category happens in 2018 or not, we are moving onto later machines, almost certainly a return to ZXR 750 Kawasakis, similar to those which the team had so much success with in the 1990s. Two machines will be built for either the ECS or other European (and UK) events. The first will be based on one of the team's 1991 spec bikes.

The team will run a single bike entry in 2018.

Alongside that project will sit the building of two Bill Simpson framed TZ350s for next year's ICGP races. The build budget is already in place, but currently the running costs for 2018 are not covered. We have blank fairings just waiting to be painted in somebodies colours!

This year we have been proud to work again alongside Hugh Brasher, Peter Lindén, Ian Simpson and Mike Dickinson. Our appreciation and congratulations to them all.

Thanks to everyone else for your contributions, work and support, roll on 2018!
The first leg to Santander is always enjoyable: 24hrs of relaxation and a few whale sightings if we are lucky.! Then the drive to Ainsa via Pamplona, Jaca and Fiscal, thats great fun too. Then, that's followed by a week with our mates, (14 this year) with the offroaders in the Pyrenean foothills. Blimey its going to be a great ten days, capped by the final race of the year at Aragon.
I would like to have announced some big developments on the bikes, but the spec remains the same as Imola, but with some general freshening up - new rings, cylinders, stem seals, wheel bearings electrical connectors, etc - basically all the routine stuff that wears out. So no big performance improvements, sorry !

The race is held as part of a big classic meeting and one of the highlights is the 'big top' style tent packed with classic bike parts sellers, a real treat for the Sunday after packing up.!

The 'championship ' is currently led by Taurus Suzuki - a lovely team who have been knocking on the door of championship success for a few years. I wonder if they will consolidate or not ?

For those who have not been to Aragon before; its worth it.......and its 23deg C right now.

See you there RB
Hugh Brasher and Mike Dickinson won a straight forward 4hrs race at Imola, the third round of the ECS championship held on Sunday 3rd September. Team mates, Peter Linden and Ian Simpson were a superb second. Congratulations to the whole team and thanks to our loyal sponsors. A fine third place went to Henk Van der Mark and Dirk Brand on the fast and reliable Bakker Roadrunner Suzuki. Top job.!

The race was conducted in warm dry conditions with not so much as a pacecar to break the monotony.! Not to say that the race was boring; entertainment was provided aplenty; firstly by the Banfield/Conroy pairing, struggling with a loose oil pipe on their P&M Kawasaki on the warm up, followed by Alf's guys breaking another superfast Kawasaki engine, then Force and Banfield/Conroy following suit. At least the Neates added a bit of interest with push ins and electrical problems, but the final and saddest failure was SCERTs with a broken crank within the last 30 mins.
It's called endurance racing.

The ECS obsession with the destruction of Europe's whole stock of Kawasaki and Suzuki parts continues apace, with absolutely no word on modernising the regulations for 2018. We think that it's almost too late now to prepare for an EVO750 entry, or anything new for 2018.

This Italian round of the ECS was another of these hotch potch races with bikes from all sorts of more recent classes mingling with the ECS entrants and distorting the results. For instance an Italian bike raced with two young guns, one a factory test rider (not allowed by ECS regs) on a recent Moto Guzzi - (also not allowed by the ECS regs), inevitable finishing ahead of all the ECS entries. Other recent bike, non-classified teams were scattered through the results.

Whilst the ECS stick to the current out of date formula, all non-Belgian races will be like this; with separate organisers forging ahead with new categories, leaving the ECS in antique land, even more depleted.
Last weekend was a great chance to dip our toes into the ICGP water (literally). The Rijeka round of the series gave Peter Linden a chance to try out Andy Abram's Spondon TZ350. Over 30 laps were covered before Peter succumbed to Flu, but in that time he achieved second fastest time in the damp Sunday practice which followed seventh in his debut dry session. Mike Edwards dominated the weekend with wins in the wet and the dry on the superbly prepared BSR TZ350 of the Beale Roberts Team.
Anyway, enough of that; looking ahead we have a week in the Pyrenees and the Aragon 4hrs to look forward to. This year's Ainsa off road trip will pitch racers against sponsors and a world champ (albeit with a gammy foot|- Linden) against the rest. As always it will be sheer fun.!

Aragon will then follow at the end of October.

See you there.
As in the first two rounds , Hugh Brasher and Mike Dickinson will be on the no.3 bike with Peter Linden and newly married Ian Simpson on the no.4 bike.
Hugh and Mike have had two horrible races with a clutch failure at Donington whilst in a rostrum position, followed by a crash apiece at Spa. Things can only go better.....
Peter and Ian are both fit and well for the third round and determined to put another strong performance in to try to make an impression on this championship.

After Imola, Peter will try Andy Abraham's very nice TZ350F out for size at Reijka, after Ian gave the bike a thumbs -up after testing it briefly at a rain soaked Cadwell Park three weeks ago.

Other news;

Bill Simpson has completed the first BSR TZ350 frame for Peter to ride next year. The team will build this bike up over the winter for a test in March.
Long term team member and ex-Shell Endurance Academy boss, Roy Hood has also commissioned Bill Simpson for a sister BSR frame. Currently we are looking for TZ 350 engines for both these bikes.
EVO750 Class at ECS. Disappointingly there has been no news of the alternative ECS class to take the series forward, as the numbers competing in the current categories continues to fall. At Spa the organisers made proposals for a class based upon the world championship rules ( 1984-1991) but there has been silence since.
We didn't know Raph well, but will remember him as a 'do-er', someone who through his good nature, pleasantness and persuasive skills got many to follow him.
And what a journey he led them on,... his team were true giant killers.
Very shortly after bursting onto the EWC scene they were achieving results far above their station and that continued to the end. The high point must have been their magical second place at the Le Mans 24 hrs. Raph's Team were always respected along the pitlane and never underestimated.
Surely one of Raphael's greatest legacies will be the sheer pleasure and satisfaction that he brought to so many team members and supporters alike.
His enthusiasm was infectious, his character was massive and his achievements considerable.

The pit lane will miss him greatly.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and team members at this sad time.
The solid third place went a long way to overcome the disappointment of a double crash on the Brasher/Dickinson entry. Peter Lindén and Ian Simpson put in a measured and restrained performance in the very difficult conditions, whilst others succumbed; some on oil and some on the greasy and wet surface. Their 3rd place was richly deserved because of this; staying out of trouble and avoiding incidents is as much a part of a skilled endurance rider as going fast. (note for Greg !)
At the wet start, Peter Lindén cautiously pressed ahead from his fifth qualifying position to take third place at the first stop. With Simpson aboard, that was consolidated and at hour two the team were 3rd locked in a battle with Force and Taurus for 2nd position behind the on-form Neate team.

These four teams ducked and dived for the final hour and a half, eventually adopting the finishing positions after Greg Fastre took a minor 'off ' in the closing stages, dropping Force to fourth. The race was red flagged after approx 3.5 hrs, after a 15 minute pace car session, during which the oil laden track was assessed and found too dangerous to continue upon.
Mid-race Mike Dickinson lost the front and crashed quite heavily, thankfully without injury. The bike took what seemed like an age to return, but when it did the pit crew set to it quickly and turned the repair around in 14 minutes. Hugh Brasher returned to the track, pitted after one lap for planned checks and was quickly on his way, only to lose the front (whilst upright!) on oil. Although he got the machine back to the pits, with under an hour to go, and the race under pacecar, the race for them was over.
The third was solid and after the double clutch failure at Donington, it was great to find a clutch spec that appeared to be working well and giving reliability to both bikes. The 'kits' that Bill produces include frame, swinging arm, caliper carriers, spindles and even fairing brackets - so it should make speedy completion of the machine relatively simple... well, it will be simple when we can source an engine, carbs and pipes.!
The plan is for Peter Lindén to test sometime before the end of the season, before embarking on the ICGP's in 2018.
The project took a massive step forward last week when Andy Abram offered to loan his immaculately restored ex Dennis Trollope TZ350 to the team. We took delivery last week and immaculate it truly was, so much so that the first job will be to remove some of the most crash vulnerable items and replace them with modern 'available' stuff. A very big thank you to Andy for that.
A fantastic team effort by the riders and pit crew alike failed to bring a result at Donington Park. Engine failures halted both teams who were each holding second position when the problems struck.

After qualifying third ( Linden/Simpson) and ninth ( Brasher/Dickinson), Mike Dickinson stormed away and held second place for the first 45 minutes, with Peter Linden holding fifth. By mid race the teams were briefly first and third.

Thanks to all the team and sponsors for a supreme effort - sometimes it just doesn't work out.
Seventeen teamsters turned up at Aragon last weekend for a three bike test. Sponsors Hugh, Ray, Lee Maurice and Robbie all joined in, some with their machines as well.

The weather was kind, albeit rather cold in the mornings, warming from 2 degrees C track, to 25C in the afternoons.

The highlights were the successful proving of the new engine spec, plus some new geometry and suspension settings. Lesser work included proof testing of new tachos, mounting brackets and battery lifetimes.

The main thing was to blow away the cobwebs of team and riders alike and to blood a couple of new team members. Andy and Mike both came away smiling and did a great job.!

The racing this year will start with the Donington Park Endurance Legends 4hrs day race on 6/7th May, then Anneau du Rhin in June.
The DG Sports ECS series continues to be a fiasco with 13 slots being 'bought' by DG Sports at Donington, all of which are oversubscribed, leaving many teams having booked ferries, airflights etc, but with no entries. Our sympathies are with those guys, who make up the lifeblood of the series. What are the ECS organisers playing at.! The Endurance Legends guys are pulling their hair out with potential reputational damage through no fault of their own..

Sweatshop Phase One will have a two-bike entry at Donington Park, in a real effort to support the return of International Endurance to the circuit and to support Endurance Legends. The last race was in 1987 when the World Championship organisers held an 8 hrs race there. From memory, Phase One Endurance were 14th that time; a lot has happened since then.

This year Multi-Hottrax Endurance Champion, Hugh Brasher will be joined by Mike Dickinson, ex-South African Superbike Champion, on the first bike. The second machine will be piloted (literally) by Peter Linden (2000 world Endurance Champion) and Ian Simpson (Double BSB and British 600 Champion). What a line-up. ! How lucky we are, to be able to call these guys friends.
With five races in five countries and such a superb rider line-up what more could you want.!

It all kicks off at Donington Park on May 6th/7th, with a two team entry of Hugh Brasher/Mike Dickinson plus Peter Linden and Ian Simpson.

Then off to Anneau du Rhin on the German/French border for our first crack at this German Championship race and our first visit to that circuit.

Spa will then follow in July, Imola in August and Aragon again in October.

The plan is to keep the two teams fixed all year.

The challenge with the bikes continues; with the balance between reliability and power being tilted yet further in the direction of output. We test at Aragon next month, so we will see then if we have it right !!

Principal sponsors this year remain unchanged and our continued gratitude goes to Hugh Brasher, Marchant Engineering ( Lee and Ray), Continental Tyres, in the shape of Graham Matcham and of course, the legendary Maurice Waldock.

Right now we are recruiting in the workshop for a few extra hands to spread the load and experience in what will surely be another great season.!!

Finally, hearty congratulations to Ian Simpson for cleaning up in the South Aftrican TT revival series this year. Well done from us all.Phase One Endurancehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06153025757016375988noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789243560577560650.post-16562749440045179762017-01-14T12:11:00.000-08:002017-01-14T12:11:37.544-08:00For sale page gathers momentum!Today we've added a few more items to our For Sale page, including a whole load of Ohlins parts.
Qualifying was topped by the new Edge Racing Team (formerly Monex Europe) with Sweatshop no 1 in second, Force in third and Sweatshop no 4 in fourth.

The surprise of the meeting was a second team bike no 50 of Team Force, raced by none other than Mathieu Lagrive and Bruno Lebihan! Regrettable they retired with machine failure in the early stages, as did Team Edge Racing.

Neate no 17/19 were second, Taurus were third, Alf was fifth and Roadrunner sixth.

Congratulations to all on a good meeting.
Season Summary:

During the season it was a hard slog keeping the Suzuki engines together, but it was worth it. With six wins, and a new Oschersleben race and lap record it proved there was still life in the old dogs!

Winter development will centre upon engines this time, plus beefing up the stock of rolling chassis spares to give more depth. And also of course the new bike... more on that later!

Personnel wise, it was another supreme effort by the core of this fantastic team - some of the challenges thrown at it seemed insurmountable at the time, but all were overcome.
I will never forget nursing that leaking and cracked P&M Suzuki on to its Mettet win, nor for that matter, Ian pushing over the line at Osch for that one!

Peter Lindén, once again the backbone of the team, has performed on and off track superbly, and has been central to all six wins. It's been our pleasure to have him in the team. Congratulations to Hugh Brasher, Mike Dickinson, Ian Simpson and Stéphane Mertens, who have all raced with us this season and are now well established team members as well as friends.

And finally, a big thank you to our sponsors; the main men being Hugh Brasher, Ray and Lee Marchant, Graham Matcham and Maurice Waldock. Without you all it just would not have been possible - you have brought a lot of people a lot of pleasure.Phase One Endurancehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06153025757016375988noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789243560577560650.post-74812142445665541392016-11-03T13:17:00.001-07:002016-11-03T15:04:11.548-07:00Postscript to the ECS points controversyThe teams forced an FIM meeting at Aragon, where a carefully scripted back fitting exercise was delivered by the FIM.
In the absence of ECS rules, the FIM representative carefully selected extracts from the EWC non-permanent team rules (despite the teams concerned doing all races) to come to the bizarre conclusion that any team could adopt any number and even select which of its bikes could carry the points!
It fooled nobody, and even the ECS, after admitting their error, will consider changing the rules for next year. Apparently, Force and Roadrunner simply turned their backs and exited from the circus.
Hugh Brasher established that the teams had no route of appeal.Phase One Endurancehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06153025757016375988noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789243560577560650.post-92086083447676511692016-10-24T12:37:00.001-07:002016-10-24T12:37:17.339-07:00DG Sport press 'self destruct' button on ECS championship.Taurus, Team Force and Roadrunner have all been ejected from their top 3 positions following a behind closed doors decision by DG Sport.
The controversy follows the disqualification of Team Neate 17 for ineligible rider combination at Spa. The second Team Neate (19) scored a fine fifth position. DG Sport stated that 'we thought it would be all right' to combine the results of Team 17 from Paul Ricard and Team 19 from Spa to create a new total if 31 points, rather than the 20 points for team 17 at Paul Ricard and the 11 points for team 19 at Spa.

For those that know endurance, this is a team championship and the rider lineups on a team's bike have no relevance.

The team is designated by it's team bike number.

If the proposal holds Team Neate (17/19) would 'overtake' second place Taurus and joint third placed Roadrunner and Team Force.

Sweatshop Phase One, no 1, are unaffected with 32 points at the head of the championship.

Russell Benney commented that it is unfortunate that the actions of DG Sports have already disrupted the harmony in what was a great series.

If this controversy continues into Aragon it is difficult to imagine how a creditable championship result can emerge.

Three of the top teams: Force, Roadrunner and Sweatshop Phase One have invited the FIM to investigate the manipulation of the Paul Ricard and Spa results that give the DG Sport their proposed outcome, and await their report.

Sweatshop Phase One look forward to running Ian Simpson and Stephane Mertens on the number 1 team bike, and Pete Linden and Hugh Brasher on the number 4 team bike.

See you there.

RB
Phase One Endurancehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06153025757016375988noreply@blogger.com0
